NILDS has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing women’s representation in governance, advocating increased legislative support for the proposed Special Seats for Women Constitutional Amendment Bill. Speaking during a meeting with the African Union Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa, Hon. Janet Sallah-Njie Ramatoulie, in Abuja on Tuesday, Director General, Professor Abubakar O. Sulaiman stressed the need to move beyond women’s participation in voting to greater representation in leadership, elective offices.
The meeting also highlighted the urgent need to translate gender equality commitments into concrete legislative action, with stakeholders calling for the passage of the Special Seats Bill to address women’s persistent underrepresentation in Nigeria’s political institutions.
