Security: NILDS Hosts Validation Workshop on Oversight Manual for Nigeria’s Security Sector

On Tuesday, 5th November, 2024, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, reiterated the Institute’s commitment to strengthening legislative capabilities in addressing security challenges and fostering informed policy decisions for the nation’s security governance. He reaffirmed this while giving the opening remarks at the Validation Workshop on the Oversight Manual for the Security Sector in Nigeria held at NILDS permanent site, Abuja.

While speaking on the operational value of the manual, he noted that it is crafted as a practical tool to guide legislators and other key stakeholders in promoting good governance within the security sector through effective legislative oversight. It aims to enhance accountability, transparency, and public trust in managing security issues in Nigeria and beyond.

Prof. Sulaiman further highlighted that NILDS established the Legislative Centre for Security Analysis to provide the National Assembly with essential technical support related to the oversight of Nigeria’s security sector, stating that this development is part of NILDS’ broader mission to build capacity for the Legislature and other institutions of democracy in Nigeria, the ECOWAS sub-region, and internationally. With Prof. Sulaiman at the helm, NILDS is poised to make a significant impact on Nigeria’s security governance.
