WIG: NILDS Convenes Women in Governance Conference on August 23-24″

The National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is organizing a two-day international women’s conference aimed at fostering empowerment among women and shaping the governance landscape in Nigeria.

The event will take place on August 23-24, 2023. Themed “Women’s Representation in Nigerian Governance: Challenges, Issues, and the Path Forward,” the conference will commence daily at 9 am and will be held at the NAF Conference Centre, located on Ahmadu Bello Way, Jabi, Abuja.

Distinguished attendees at the event will include the President of the Senate, Dist. Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas and Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The Convener and Director General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar O Sulaiman, stated that the conference aims to provide a platform for a wide array of stakeholders to engage in discussions regarding the significant matters surrounding women’s participation and representation within Nigerian governance.

Delivering the keynote address will be Erelu Bisi Fayemi, former First Lady of Ekiti State and President of the African Women Development Fund.

The conference will also see the participation of women politicians, female parliamentarians from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda, as well as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other vital stakeholders.
