NILDS to Hold Conference on Youth and PWD’s Inclusion

The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is preparing to host a conference focused on the involvement of youth and individuals with disabilities in governance.

During the Cross-Party Leadership Conference, organized by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in Abuja, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the Director General of NILDS, disclosed this initiative. The conference aimed to promote inclusive political party practices.

In August, NILDS took steps to address gender disparities by convening an International Conference on Women in Governance. This event brought together political decision-makers, academics, civil society organizations, and various stakeholders to conduct a thorough analysis and propose sustainable solutions.

Prof. Sulaiman expressed his optimism for similar events to be organized in the near future, focusing on youth and individuals with disabilities.

Furthermore, Prof. Sulaiman emphasized the importance of ongoing engagement with political parties, particularly regarding their internal structures, inclusivity practices, leadership recruitment, and their role in creating opportunities for substantial participation and representation of underrepresented groups in Nigeria.
