On Tuesday, a delegation from the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, National Defence College Abuja, led by Prof. Adam Ahmed, the Provost, paid a courtesy visit to Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
During the meeting, Prof. Adam Ahmed, the Provost, praised NILDS for its achievements as a prominent intellectual center for the Nigerian Parliament and other democratic institutions. He expressed the desire to establish a stronger collaboration between the two organizations to undertake strategic projects related to legislative and security matters. This collaboration would focus on research and capacity building, aiming to fulfill the mandates of both agencies effectively.
The primary goal of the meeting was to explore the possibility of forming a partnership agreement to enhance civil-military relations in Nigeria, with a specific emphasis on legislative aspects. The ultimate aim is to create a seamless and exemplary civil-military relationship in the nation.
In response, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the DG of NILDS, stressed the significance of addressing security challenges through a civil approach. He also highlighted the importance of research institutions like the recently commissioned NILDS Legislative Centre for Security Analysis and the National Defence College in supporting security operations within the Nigerian state.
