Greater Tomorrow International College, Arigidi-Ikare Akoko, in Ondo state, emerged as the winner of the southwest zonal competition in the 2023 National Quiz Competition for Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria, organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
During the zonal stage of the competition, which took place at the Lagos State Educational Resource Centre in Ojodu, Lagos state, Greater Tomorrow International College outperformed five other secondary schools, each of which had previously claimed the title of state champion in their respective states within the southwest region.
Unfortunately, the following schools did not secure victory in the grand finale held on Thursday: Eve Adelaja Girls Senior Secondary School in Bariga, Lagos; Divine Touch International Secondary School in Ado Ekiti; Lagelu Grammar School in Oyo state; and Vickayor Private School in Ile-Ife, Osun state.
The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, who was represented by Dr. Adewale Aderemi, the Director of Democracy and Governance, officially inaugurated the competition. He pointed out that this year marked the 8th edition of the competition, which has had a significant impact on the lives of its participants.
The Director General further explained that this competition is an annual event, and the first edition was held in 2016, initially featuring schools from within the Federal Capital Territory. He encouraged the participating students and their teachers to uphold the rules of the competition with the spirit of good sportsmanship to ensure that the competition’s intended objectives are met.
