The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS has named a past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, as chairman of its specialised committee on Advanced Executive Education Programme. The Director General, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, while Inaugurating the five-man committee in Abuja, said the committee is expected to play a key role in the Institute’s operations this year and going forward.
In the same vein, the DG inaugurated five-man committee on Legislative Centre for Security Analysis headed by Acting Director, Legislative Support Service, NILDS, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, SAN.
According to Prof. Sulaiman, the committees have important implications for democratic consolidation in Nigeria. “They are intended to provide scientific and evidence-based solutions to some of the perennial problems that confront us, including security and leadership. “They will also promote critical research and policy insights, which will serve as background materials for the legislature and other democratic institutes as contained in the NILDS Act, 2011.
In his remarks, Prof. Jega commended the initiative and believe it will go along way to create competitive training program globally. Also, responding, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, SAN, commended the DG for making effort in proving solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
The membership of the committee on Advanced Executive Education Programme is composed of Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Dr. A.G. Abiola, Dr. Shuaibu Danwanka and Rekiya Ibrahim-Atta as members, While committee on Legislative Centre for Security Analysis is made up of Prof. Edoba Omoregie SAN,Chairman, Prof. Muhammed Etudaiye, Dr. Adewale Aderemi, Dr. Maimuna Izah and Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi as members.
The first progress report of the Committees is expected within three weeks of its inauguration.
