NILDS’ Boss, Prof. Sulaiman Challenges 10th Assembly to Prioritize Security, Improved Welfare, and Unity.

Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th Assembly next month, the newly elected members of the National Assembly has been urged to put on the front burner security, improved welfare and unity of Nigeria.

The Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O Sulaiman, gave the charge, yesterday, during the closing dinner for the newly elected lawmakers. He said the legislature has critical role to play in this regard.

“All experts agree that the most significant task ahead of us is uniting Nigeria and managing diversity, improving security and enhancing the economic opportunities and social conditions of all Nigerians.

“The legislature has a critical role to play in this regard. The experience of the 9th Assembly shows that a proactive legislature that collaborates with the executive can influence and direct policy and produce better developmental outcomes for the population.

“I challenge you all to use the knowledge earned from this induction exercise to entrench good governance” he said.

Prof. Sulaiman also expressed his commitment to prioritizing the ongoing training and re-training of Legislators, focusing on specific and technical aspects of their legislative responsibilities.

He further urged the members-elect to seize the opportunity to enhance their expertise and proficiency by participating in the Institute’s concise and certificate courses.
