The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) have established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the consolidation of democracy.
The main objective of this MoU is to facilitate collaboration and the exchange of knowledge between these two entities, while contributing to the progression of democracy by providing support to legislative bodies across Nigeria.
Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, the Director General of NILDS, expressed this during the signing of the MoU in Abuja on Tuesday and highlighted that the partnership underscores the shared principles and collective dedication of the institutes towards achieving excellence.
He explained, “The partnership agreement underscores the commitment enshrined in the legislature, as outlined in its governing Act. Some of NILDS’ recent endeavors in pursuit of this goal encompass the inauguration of the Legislative Centre for Security Analysis, the establishment of NILDS Democracy Radio, and the recently concluded International Conference on Women in Governance.”
Preceding this, Olusegun Mojeed, the President and Chairman of CIPM’s Governing Council, disclosed that through the MoU, the institute aims to extend its services to the Nigerian legislature in a strategic alliance with NILDS. This alliance positions NILDS as a capacity-building institution and a technical hub for the National Assembly and other democratic establishments in Nigeria and beyond.
