National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) on Monday hosted members of the Ghanaian Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Interior, who were on a benchmarking visit to share experiences and strengthen bilateral legislative relations between Ghana and Nigeria.
The delegation, led by Hon. James Agalga, sought to understand Nigeria’s legislative practices and oversight mechanisms relating to national security and defence policies.
In his remarks, Hon. James Agalga commended NILDS for its outstanding contributions to legislative capacity building and democratic governance in Nigeria. He noted that the Institute’s robust training programmes and research efforts have made it a model for other parliaments across Africa.
Responding, the Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, welcomed the Ghanaian delegation and emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary collaboration in promoting peace, security, and sustainable governance across the continent. He reaffirmed that NILDS remains open to partnerships with the Ghanaian Parliament to advance democratic practices and enhance legislative oversight in the security and defence sectors.
