Professor Sulaiman Calls for Enhanced Collaboration Among Levels of Government

Professor Sulaiman Calls for Enhanced Collaboration Among Levels of Government

Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, has highlighted the importance of fostering harmonious relationships among various levels of government as a means to drive national development.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the opening of a workshop titled “Strengthening State Legislature and Local Government Relations for Effective Oversight and Good Governance at the Grassroots Level in Jigawa State”, Professor Sulaiman underscored the need for stronger intergovernmental collaboration.

The workshop, organized by NILDS in partnership with the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government, sought to enhance the relationship between the State House of Assembly and local governments. The initiative is aimed at promoting good governance and ensuring effective service delivery at the grassroots level.

Professor Sulaiman emphasized that while the principle of separation of powers remains fundamental, fostering a functional and cooperative relationship between different tiers of government and institutions is crucial for sustainable development.

He further stressed the need for robust accountability and transparency mechanisms in governance to strengthen public trust and ensure effective oversight.
