The Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman emphasized that the NILDS National Quiz Competition on the Legislature and Democracy for Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria aims to cultivate future democrats.
The recently concluded 8th edition took place at the National Assembly, with Saint Theresa’s College, Nsukka, Enugu state emerging as the winners.
Prof. Sulaiman highlighted the competition’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda, the Legislative Agenda of the National Assembly, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). He stressed its significance in advancing the 10th National Assembly’s commitment to prioritize education for all.
The competition serves as a means to engage and advocate for increased youth participation in civic, political, and governance spaces. The DG noted that the representation of both girls and boys in the competition underscores the importance of addressing access constraints to education for national development.
The competition, which began at the state level in October, involved secondary schools from the three senatorial zones in all 36 states.
